W.C.H.A. GUIDELINES FOR YOUTH CONTESTS

Red, White, and Blue Event Rules

I.          One dog each year shall be selected the WCHA Nite Hunt Dog of the Year.  The winner is the dog that places highest in the WCHA Red, White, and Blue Nite hunt competition series.  The competition consists of three UKC sanctioned events held at pre-arranged and advertised locations throughout the state, followed by a non-UKC sanctioned hunt held after the three qualifying hunts.  Individual placement in one or more of the three events determines which dogs qualify to hunt in the Championship Finals.

A.  A dog qualifies for the Championship Finals by winning its cast and accumulating points in each of the three Red, White, and Blue hunts.  Points are based on overall placement as follows:

                        2nd place: 595

                        3rd place: 590

UKC tie breaker procedure in the event of a tie.

  1. Honorary Championship Finalists.  Each year, the Wisconsin Sporting Dogs Association year long Nite Hunt events winner is qualified for the Finals.
  2. The winner of the Championship Final Hunt is the WCHA Nite Hunt Dog of the Year.  The Championship Final Hunt is a one night, two round format, consisting of an early round hunt followed by a late round final cast.  Each round has a 1-hour hunting time limit.  UKC Championship rules apply.

1.  The Championship Early Round

a.)     Any dog that receives two cast wins through the Red, White, and Blue hunts is guaranteed qualification in the early round of the Championship Finals.  Those dogs will be split into separate casts, if possible under the UKC cast breakdown format.

b.)     The UKC cast breakdown procedure will be utilized to draw out the early round casts.  In some cases this may provide a final cast with less than 4 dogs.  Exception:  A different breakdown format may be utilized by unanimous vote of all confirmed finalists prior to drawout.

c.)     The remaining dogs required to fill out enough early round casts to provide a maximum 4 dog late round cast are made up of single cast winners.  Single cast winning qualifiers are selected by the highest amount of cumulative points earned under the point system enumerated in Rule 1 above.

d.)     Any dogs participating in the Championship Hunt must be present on the grounds and the owner or handler declared present prior to the advertised Championship Final deadline.

e.)     One non-hunting judge appointed by a representative of the WCHA hunt committee shall judge each early round cast.  Judges decisions’ are final.  A non-hunting judge may not own a dog in the cast or be a direct family member of any handler or dog owner involved with the cast.

2.    The Final cast

a.)     Any dog that wins three casts through the Red, White, and Blue hunts earns an early round bye in the finals and automatically qualifies to hunt in the late round championship cast.

b.)     If there are no dogs that qualify for the Championship late round, the WCHA Nite Hunt Dog of the Year is decided by the dog that receives the most amount of cumulative points through the three Red, White, and Blue hunts.

c.)     If there is no plus point cast winner in the late round final cast, the WCHA Nite Hunt Dog of the Year is decided by the dog in the final cast that wins out in the UKC tie breaker procedure.  Any dog that minuses out, withdraws, or is scratched in the final round receives 400 minus points to be used in the tie breaking procedure.

d.)     If the last remaining dogs in the Final Cast are scratched for off game, points are awarded minus and the UKC tie breaking procedure is used to declare the winner.

e.)     Any dog scratched for fighting in the final cast is eliminated and cannot be considered for the WCHA Nite Hunt Dog of the Year.

f.)       If at any time during the final cast that all dogs but one are scratched, minus out, or are withdrawn, the remaining dog is declared the winner automatically.

g.)     If only one dog advances or qualifies for the final cast, that dog is not required to hunt and is automatically declared the winner.

h.)     A minimum of two non-hunting judges appointed by a representative of the WCHA hunt committee shall judge the final cast.  Judges decisions’ are final.  A non-hunting judge may not own a dog in the cast or be a direct family member of any handler or dog owner involved with the cast.

II.   Each year, one dog of each breed that participates in the Nite Hunt portion of the  Red, White, and Blue Classic events and/or Championship Finals may be considered for recognition as one of the six overall breed winners.

    1.  The breed award will be chosen by the WCHA Board of Directors and sponsored by a local affiliated club.
    2.  A representative from the local sponsoring club will present the breed award to the owner at the annual banquet.
    3.  The dog of each of the six breeds that places highest in the Championship Finals will be named the Overall Breed Winner.
    4. If no dog in a particular breed advances past the Championship early round, the breed winner will be the dog that was qualified highest for the Championship Finals by participating in the Red, White, and Blue events.  Exception: A qualified dog that confirms entry and participates in the Championship Finals wins out over any other dog of that breed that does not confirm entry and participate in the Finals.
    5. If no dog in a particular breed qualifies for the Championship Finals, the winner will be the dog with the highest amount of cumulative WCHA points earned.
    6. If no dog has WCHA points, the winner will be the high point cast winner.
    7. If two or more dogs are tied with equal cast win points, the dog that participated in the most WCHA hunts is the winner.
    8. If still a tie, the UKC tie-breaker procedure is in effect.  Points tallied cumulatively over all hunts participated in.
    9. If no dog of a particular breed has a cast win, the winner is the dog with the highest amount of cumulative plus points over all hunts participated in.  If no dog of a particular breed has cumulative plus points, there is no breed winner.
